Project Pegasus
Project Pegasus™ is a biomimetic performance footwear system designed by Devante M. Gray, inspired by the structural architecture of beetle elytra wings. Where conventional athletic shoes manage impact through foam compression alone, Pegasus replaces passive cushioning with an engineered exoskeletal platform. An external wing shell at the heel intercepts ground reaction force before it reaches the foot, channeling it through four copper rivet structural nodes into an internal elytra-inspired wing plate embedded in the midsole. A beetle elytron plate honeycomb rib network — hexagonal walls with cylindrical trabecula posts at each node vertex, directly translated from peer-reviewed materials science — distributes force across the forefoot zone. A full-length copper mesh conductive plane runs heel to toe beneath a dual-density polyurethane foam body, completing the load path. The result is a shoe that manages force through geometry, not just material. Eight mechanically distinct layers. One unified structural sy
