About 1-Miquiztli
1-Miquiztli (1-Death) is Uakali Studio's tribute to Mexican death traditions. This ancient Aztec calendar period is ruled by one of the creator gods, Tezcatlipoca (Smoking Mirror). The upper, inspired by Day of the Dead "pan de muerto", honors Tonatiuh (the Sun God), who dies and renews life daily. The outsole, inspired by Day of the Dead "papel picado", is dedicated to Mictlantecuhtli (Lord of Mictlan, the Underworld). Finally, the design is inscribed with the Miquiztli skull glyph as a tribute to Tezcatlipoca, the invisible guide of our cosmic destiny. 1-Miquiztli: Mexican heritage, reshaped by Uakali Studio.
