AUTARKEIA 1 LP embodies autonomy and inclusive design. Named after the Greek “αὐτάρκεια,” meaning self-sufficiency, it invites mastery of movement and space. This barefoot-style urban trail shoe features a low profile with a compressible heel for hands-free wear. Its 3D sole delivers 360° traction through gecko-inspired lugs and Milanese tile geometry, while microtextures generated through algorithmic design mimic gecko toes for enhanced grip. Built as a single monocoque form, Autarkeia unites breathability, resilience, and parametric precision, translating biological intelligence into computational craft for adaptive, intuitive motion.
Collaboration between MATERIA and BENJOMETRY, a manifesto of autonomy, freedom, and inclusive design, an exploration of accessibility and biomorphic ruggedness through form-finding algorithms.
